The fungal collection Micoteca da Universidade do Minho (MUM) expresses great satisfaction with the joint signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on scientific and educational cooperation on microbial information technology with the World Data Centre of Microorganisms (UNESCO, WFCC-MIRCEN), the Institute of Microbiology of the Chinese Academy of Science (IMCAS) and the University of Minho. The MoU signature took place on this last Friday (16th May) in Beijing (China), in the presence of the Portuguese Ministry of Education (see photo) and involved the Rector of UMinho Prof. António Cunha (right), Director of WDCM Dr Juncai Ma (left), and the General Director of IMCAS Prof. Shuangjiang Liui (middle). This MoU aims to enhance the activity of MUM globally with educational and e-learning projects (with emphasis on MOOCs and SPOCS) in the fields of microbiology and biotechnology. Pursuit also share data standards of microbial resources under the guidelines of the World Federation for Culture Collections, and a microbial resources management platform in order to facilitate data management and microbial culture exchange under the international cooperation framework of the Global Catalogue of Microorganisms (http://gcm.wfcc.info/).
