Scientific Coordination Committee

The AMG develops or enhances fungal applications in biotechnology and bioengineering. The approaches of AMG are based on correct identifications and preserving fungal resources used in research. For this reason, the MUM collection of cultures - Micoteca of University of Minho - is part of the activities of the group. The MUM is an ISO 9001: 2008 certified culture collection, for the deposit, preservation and supply of filamentous fungi. The main research themes of the AMG are:

  • Environmental & medical mycology: Bioremediation of organic pollutants. Identification of (A) emerging mycological diseases and dermatophytes and (b) new treatments, with special emphasis on the applications of nanoparticles of silver.
  • Food & water mycology: Prevention or remediation of natural occurrence of fungi, mycotoxins and unwanted odors in agro-food products and in drinking water (bottled and tap waters). Fungal diseases of palms are also studied.

The main research themes of the AMG are:

  • Environmental & medical mycology
  • Food & water mycology

Being so, the group is divided into 2 sub-groups, each one corresponding to a main scientific domain.
