Abstract
There are many diseases associated to microbiota dysbiosis, e.g. diabetes, inflammatory bowel, cancer. To study those diseases and effects of drugs/food compounds in the microbiota and intestinal cells, several gastrointestinal in-vitro simulators have been developed. However, none of them combines in one system the peristaltic simulation with metabolites absorption phenomena, multi-colon zones and microbiota-host interaction (including several intestinal cell types). To address that, we propose a novel simulator - the ColOsH, consisting of a Colon-Reactor (ascending, transverse and descending colon) with oscillatory-flow mixture for peristalsis simulation, membrane module for metabolites absorption and an integrated Colon-Host simulator with epithelial cells, mucous producing cells and cells from the immune system, for microbiota-cells interaction. The ColOsH will be highly important for the health and food research on biological and biochemical phenomena in the human colon.
