Crude oil and petroleum-derived products fuel our economy, but seriously harm ecosystems and natural resources when accidentally spilled in the environment. Bioremediation appears as a promising and environmental friendly technology to clean-up oil-contaminated sites. However, ecosystems restoration is still a challenge. Slow microbial growth and biodegradation rates, reduced contaminants bioavailability and limited access to the contaminated areas, frequently in extreme environments, defy science and engineering.
The symposium (11th of May) aims to join experts from government, industry, consultancy and academia for knowledge transfer and discussion of innovative ideas. This event will serve as a basis for a collaborative platform between the different players involved in oil spills remediation. Presentations by young researchers will be privileged through a call for abstract for posters. The workshop (12th of May) will provide experimental training on oil bioremediation.
