Synergistic antimicrobial interaction of honey and bacteriophage in Escherichia coli biofilms

Abstract

Wound colonization by biofilms-forming bacteria is one of the main obstacles to the treatment of chronic wounds, causing a number of biological and financial problems. Biofilms are structured communities of bacterial cells enclosed in a self-produced polymeric matrix, adhered to inert or living surfaces, blocking antibiotics and patient’s immune cells from reaching bacteria.
